Update (read previous post)

Well, Matt finally got home about 2 hours after he got hit last night.

The cops got there and Matt and the cops walked around the baseball fields looking for this guy (Matt said he had an idea what he looked like). They didn't find him so they made an announcement saying they were looking for him.

Well, the guy doesn't show up (apparently he was at a different baseball park than where they were looking for him at, right next to it) so Matt suggested they go back to the truck because the games were getting out and this guy might be trying to leave.

Sure enough, they start walking that way and Matt sees the guy in his truck trying to leave! Matt told the cop and the cop took off running to the guy, told him to stop the car, etc, etc, etc.

Well, it was a kid- 18 years old- who was up there watching his little brother play baseball. He told the cop that he did NOT hit Matt's truck, but then asked to call his mom on his cell phone because he was supposed to be meeting her for supper. The cop told him he could call her, so he does, and proceeds to tell her "remember that truck I told you I hit?" not knowing that both Matt and the cop could hear him.

So now he's in trouble for lying to the cop!

Anyway, long story short. Well, shortER. ;-)

It ends up that the street that he hit Matt on is "private property" somehow, so Matt was able to choose to press charges or not. Matt decided not to (the kid was crying and scared, the mom showed up and she was crying, the cop already had the kid in hand cuffs b/c he had lied to him and he had taken him back over to the "scene of the crime," and Matt was just tired of messing with it- not to mention that Matt's been in sort of the same situation when he was younger and he felt bad for the kid.)

Matt just told him to MAKE SURE that if he ever hit anyone to STOP! I think the kid just got scared and freaked out, ya know?? I'm just not sure why his MOM didn't tell him to try to find Matt, or at least the truck that he hit though. Great parenting out there!!

But, that's that!! ;-) (Sorry so long!!)

That is so crazy...It seems as if the first reaction for teenage boys in a situation like this is to run. I was no saint, myself. I was driving a car without a license for all four years of high school. I only got cited like three times. The fourth time the cops wanted to give me a lesson and sent me to Bexar county jail (i was 17 years old). This was not a fun time. Well, do you get compensated for the damage. How does that work? I hope ya'll exchanged insurance info. Take care...
